Be able to identify groups of words as sentences, fragments, or run-ons.
Be able to rewrite fragments and run-ons into good sentences.
Be able to combine ideas into one good sentence by using words like ALTHOUGH, BECAUSE, IF, SINCE, UNLESS, or WHEN.
Know the different kinds of sentences and their purpose. Declarative, Imperative, Interrogative, and Exclamatory....be able to identify each kind
Be able to identify the difference between a simple and compound sentence.
Be able to identify all subjects an verbs within sentences. Be extra careful and look for compound subjects and verbs. Also, ALWAYS include ALL helping verbs.
Be able to diagram a compound sentence, a simple sentence with compound verbs, and a simple sentence with compound subjects and verbs.
