    STUCO Carnival: January 26 from 5 to 8 pm in the ROC gym - STUCO is busy preparing their annual carnival.  The theme this year is Cloud 9.  Plan now to join us for fun, games, concessions, and much more!  Dress up as anything that flies or can be found in the sky.  There will be a Pie in the Face Contest!!!  Bring your entire family for an evening of fun and fellowship!

    3rd Quarter Mid-Term Cutoff: January 30 - Grades will go home the beginning of the following week.

    Pep Rally: Friday, February 1 at 11:30 am in the ROC gym - We will be introducing our junior high and high school basketball teams.  All parents are welcome.

    Basketball Senior Recognition: Friday, February 1 - The high school basketball team will be recognizing senior basketball players between the junior high game at 6 pm and the high school game at 7 pm.  Plan now to attend!

    Board Meeting: Thursday, February 7 at 6:30 pm 

    Senior Class Fundraiser: Sunday, February 10 from 12-1:30 at Katy Park Church - Due to the anticipated weather, please note the date change.  The seniors will be hosting a chili and soup luncheon, and a dessert auction to raise funds for their senior trip to Panama City Beach, Florida.  

    No school: Monday, February 18 - There will be no school or homework for that day.  However, teachers are allowed to give homework for Tuesday, February 19 if the teacher chooses.

    Home Basketball Games: January 14 - Junior high boys play at 6 pm and high school boys play at 7 pm.

    Add/Drop Deadline: January 16 - Any high school students that would like to add or drop a class can pick up a form from Mrs. Furrey in the office.  The form must be signed by the student and a parent.

    Science Projects - 3rd quarter is set aside for science projects.  This means that it is acceptable for science teachers to assign regularly scheduled science homework in addition to the science project work.  Check with your child as teachers will be sending home their expectations, deadlines, and important information for this year's projects.

    Crock Pots: There are two crock pots in the kitchen that were left behind from the Thanksgiving Feast.  If you are missing a crock pot, please check the kitchen. 

    Science Projects: 3rd quarter is the quarter for Science Projects.  Teachers that plan to have students do projects will be sending home information soon, if they haven't already.  Projects will be done in addition to normally assigned homework.  If you have any questions regarding Science Projects, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher. 

    Grade Cards: Grade cards will go home on Monday, January 7. 

    Honor Roll: We will recognize our honor roll students on Wednesday, January 9 during opening.  All parents are invited and welcome to attend!

    There are lots of smiles around here this morning!  The students, along with teachers and room parents, are busily opening gifts, doing crafts, and playing games.  This is such a fun day!  Wishing each of you a Merry Christmas, full of God's richest blessings!  Students, staff, and families, enjoy your Christmas break.  I pray you have time to rest, relax, and enjoy lots of family time.

    Special thanks to Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Leon for a lovely Christmas Program this year.  The children did a wonderful job sharing the message of Jesus!

    2nd Quarter Ends:  TODAY, December 14 - Grade cards will go home when we return to school after Christmas break.

    Classes Resume: Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 8 am - We will start off the beginning of 2019 with a pajama day!

    Christmas Program Dress Rehearsals: TODAY & Monday, December 10 from 3:30 to 5 - Elementary and Junior High students will be having dress rehearsal in the Sanctuary.  Administration will oversee the students after school until Mrs. Scott is ready to begin.  Parents can pick their students up in the Sanctuary at 5. 

    Spanish Caroling: TONIGHT from 7pm to midnight - Grades 9th-12th - Students will need to be at school at 7 pm.  Dress warmly!  Pick up will be at Walgreen's at midnight.  Call or text Mrs. Leon with any questions.

    Spirit Days: Monday, December 10 - Pajama Day - wear your favorite jammies and slippers to school!  Wednesday, December 12 - Ugly Sweater Day - wear your favorite "ugly" Christmas sweater to school.

    Christmas Program: Tuesday, December 11 at 6:30 pm in the Sanctuary - Make plans now to this blessed evening.  Our elementary and junior high students will be performing.  Refreshments will be served in the CEL Awana Room following the program.

    Christmas Gift Exchange - Gifts should be brought to the school by Wednesday, December 12th to ensure no one forgets theirs in the busyness of getting ready the morning of party day.  Students will exchange gifts with one another on December 14th.   

    Junior High & High School Boys' Basketball - Our basketball boys have been working hard in practice to prepare for the start of their games.  See the December calendar for their upcoming away games.  Their first home game will be Tuesday, January 8.  Junior high boys will play that evening at 5 pm and 6 pm.  Varsity boys will play that same night at 7 pm.  Make plans to come and cheer on our Mustangs! 

    STUCO Christmas Party: Thursday, December 13 from 6:30 to 10 at the Mabry's house - All high school students are invited to attend.  Each student is asked to bring a gender-neutral white elephant gift and their snack to share.  If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Mabry, STUCO Advisor.

    Christmas Party Day: Friday, December 14 - Students will be released at 11:30 following clean up.  As part of our party day, we ask everyone to bring a snack to share.  If you are in grades K-5, please bring a healthy and a sweet snack to share.   If you are in grades 6th-12th, please bring the following: Last name beginning with A-L bring a healthy snack, M-Z bring a sweet snack.  Students will exchange gifts that day, play games, do crafts, and hang out with their classmates.  All parents are welcome to join us!

    I hope each of you had a restful Thanksgiving break!  It's hard to believe we will be off for Christmas break in just two weeks, and the school year will be half over!  To make school fun during the final push for second quarter, we will be having Spirit Days for the next two weeks.  You can find the Spirit Days on the calendar, or listed below. 

    Red Communication Folders: The office is sending home paperwork today, so please check your child's red communication folders. 

    Scrip Cards: Natalie Smith, Scrip Coordinator, will be placing orders soon for Scrip cards.  If you are in need of cards before break starts, please bring your order into the office or contact Natalie directly.  There are a lot of great rebates going on for the holidays.

    Spirit Days: Monday, December 3 - Favorite Sports Team - wear the gear and colors of your favorite sports team!  Wednesday, December 5 - Wild Socks Day - wear your favorite socks to school!  Friday, December 7 - Crazy Hat Day - wear your favorite hat to school!  Monday, December 10 - Pajama Day - wear your favorite jammies and slippers to school!  Wednesday, December 12 - Ugly Sweater Day - wear your favorite "ugly" Christmas sweater to school.

The twist in Puerto Rican culture is that the ones who receive the surprise mini-concert open up their home and welcome the singers inside to enjoy warm or cold refreshments and appetizers!  Would you like us to come Caroling at your home that Friday evening? We can just come to sing or you can also host our group with some goodies to keep us going till midnight! Let Mrs. Leon (660-473-2503) know if you would like us to come to your home and if you want us to sing or to sing and eat! First come, first served, so contact Mrs. Leon quickly. We can only accommodate 7-8 homes!  Mrs. Leon needs to know by Wednesday, December 5th.

    What a blessing our Applewood families are!  The STUCO students were able to fill 33 Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes!  They exceeded their goal by 8 boxes!!!  Thank you to each of you for making a difference in the lives of 33 children all around the globe.  May you and your families be blessed this Thanksgiving season.  Next week will be a short, but busy, week at school.  Our K-8th grade students have been busy preparing for their performances at the Thanksgiving Feast.  Thank you in advance to our Room Parents for spending the morning in the classrooms with students, to our Thanksgiving Feast Coordinators for planning the meal, and to all of the volunteers!  The Thanksgiving Feast wouldn't be a success without all of the many hands that help prepare for that day.  With next week being a short week, there will be no bulletin.

    Scrip Wallet Sign Up: November 19 @ 3:15 - If your family would like assistance getting signed up for Scrip access on your phone, stop by the office after school and Mrs. Greer and Mrs. Furrey will help walk you through the process of getting signed up.   

    A+ Homework Help: November 28 - 3:15 to 4:15 pm - A+ students will continue offering homework help for grades K-8th in the CEL cafeteria on Wednesdays throughout November, with the exception of Wednesday, November 21 as that is our Thanksgiving Feast Day.  Interested K-8th grade families need to get in touch with Mrs. Mabry to sign up.

    Thanksgiving Feast: November 21 at 11:30 ROC gym - Feast day is a blessed tradition at Applewood.  You won't want to miss it!  Our students, teachers, and several volunteers will be preparing a traditional Thanksgiving meal.  The elementary and junior high students will be performing at 11:30 that day.  The meal will be served at approximately noon.  Students will be drawing names that day for the Christmas gift exchange.  Watch for the paper that will be sent home that day with the name they draw.  Gifts are due to the school office by Wednesday, December 12.  Please be sure to write who the gift is for on the gift. 

    No School: Friday, November 23 - Classes resume at 8 am, Monday, November 26.

    Although it is fall, winter weather is upon us a well.  With winter quickly approaching, please be reminded that in the event of inclement weather administration will send out a One Call letting families know if school is cancelled.  It is the responsibility of each family to access each of their students' teacher's blog pages to get the day's homework assignments.  Teachers plan to post all assignments by 10 a.m., however, with increased activity on the website, occasionally things can be slow to upload.  If your child's teacher has not posted by 10 a.m. please check again.  All homework is due the day classes resume.     

    Glass Entry Doors: Maplewood has asked that we not put any signage on the glass doors to the ROC or CEL.  If you would like something posted on a bulletin board, please bring it to the office for approval from administration. 

    Policy #5205: As a reminder, please note that if a student arrives to school after 8:10 or arrives to class three minutes late, they are considered tardy.  This means that if a student is not present for opening, they are tardy.  We ask that students arrive to school by 8 am to allow time to take backpacks to class and get ready for the day.   

    Operation Christmas Child Packing Night: Monday, November 12 from 3:30 to 5:30 in the ROC gym - Join STUCO for a time of fun and fellowship.  Their goal is to pack 25 boxes to be sent to children all around the world.

    Thanksgiving Feast: November 21 at 11:30 ROC gym - Feast day is a blessed tradition at Applewood.  You won't want to miss it!  Our students, teachers, and several volunteers will be preparing a traditional Thanksgiving meal.  The elementary and junior high students will be performing at 11:30 that day.  The meal will be served at approximately noon.  Students will be drawing names that day for the Christmas gift exchange.  Watch for the paper that will be sent home that day with the name they draw.  Gifts are due to the school office by Wednesday, December 12.  Please be sure to write who the gift is for on the gift.

    It's hard to believe it is the month of November already!  It seems like school just started, and here we are in second quarter already.  Before we know it, we'll be on Christmas break!  It is my prayer that each of you, and your families, are having a fall of bountiful blessings.  There are so many wonderful things happening here at ACS.  Our students and teachers have gotten into a steady routine and there are lots of smiling faces throughout both buildings.  I am ever thankful for Applewood Christian School!

    High School Boys Basketball Meeting: TODAY, November 2 at 6:30 pm at ACS - Boys in grades 9th-12th that are interested in playing basketball this season are encourage to attend tonight's meeting.  The first scheduled game is Tuesday, November 13.  See the school calendar for other games.

    Grade Cards: Signed grade cards should be returned to the school office as soon as possible.

    A+ Homework Help: November 7, 14, and 28 - 3:15 to 4:15 pm - A+ students will continue offering homework help for grades K-8th in the CEL cafeteria on Wednesdays throughout November, with the exception of Wednesday, November 21 as that is our Thanksgiving Feast Day.  Interested K-8th grade families need to get in touch with Mrs. Mabry to sign up.

    Operation Christmas ChildThis year our STUCO students are participating in Operation Christmas Child.  Their goal is to fill 25 shoe boxes to be sent to children all around the globe.  STUCO are collecting items to fill shoe boxes through November 12.  As a family, if you would like to fill a shoe box, boxes are available for pick up.  STUCO will be hosting a Packing Night on November 12 from 3:30 to 5:30.  All families are invited to join this fun event.  STUCO has placed wrapped boxes in the CEL Awana Room and the ROC foyer for donations.  If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to any high school student or Mrs. Mabry, STUCO Advisor.

    End of First Quarter & Honor Roll - Grade cards will go home next week.  We will recognize honor roll students on Friday, November 2 during opening.  Feel free to join us during this time. 

    Soccer Nationals: Today - Our soccer boys are at National's today in Springfield!  They won their first game, and lost the second yesterday.  We are cheering them on from afar.  Go Mustangs!  A reminder that all homework is due on Monday, October 29.  

    Alumni Soccer & Volleyball Games: Tomorrow - The Athletic Committee will be hosting the alumni soccer game at 4 pm on the soccer field behind the ROC gym and the alumni volleyball game in the ROC gym at 6 pm.  Following the soccer game, there will be a potluck meal shared.  Athletic Committee is providing hotdogs and drinks for the event.  Please bring a dish to share. Help us spread the word by letting any alumni families know about the event!

    This year our STUCO students are participating in Operation Christmas Child.  Their goal is to fill 25 shoe boxes to be sent to children all around the globe.  STUCO will be collecting items to fill shoe boxes beginning next week through November 12.  There will be totes located in the Awana Room and ROC gym to place donated items.  As a family, if you would like to fill a shoe box, boxes will be available for pick up after October 24.  STUCO will be hosting a Packing Night on November 12 from 3:30 to 5:30.  All families are invited to join this fun event.  STUCO will be sending home information with students regarding the items they will be collecting.  If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to any high school student or Mrs. Mabry, STUCO Advisor. 

    With winter quickly approaching, please be reminded that in the event of inclement weather administration will send out a One Call letting families know if school is cancelled.  It is the responsibility of each family to access each of their students' teachers blog pages to get the day's homework assignments.  Teachers do plan to post all assignments by 10 a.m., however, with increased activity on the website, occasionally things can be slow to upload.  If your child's teacher has not posted by 10 a.m. please check again.  All homework is due the day classes resume.

    Spirit Week: October 1 - Pajama Day - wear your pj's and brush your hair that day but don't forget to brush your teeth!  October 3 - Favorite Color Day - come to school decked out in your favorite color or colors!  October 5 - Spirit Day - sport your school colors of red, white , and black!  Hats, sunglasses, face paint, etc. are allowed on Spirit Days.  It will be up to teachers whether or not those things can be worn during class.  Be mindful of the dress code when planning for Spirit Days.  We will be awarding a prize to the student with the most school spirit!!  GO MUSTANGS!

    Family Club Meeting: October 4 - 4 pm @ Perkins restaurant - This is the first meeting of the school year.  All families are welcome to attend to learn more about Family Club.  If you would like to become a member, with voting privileges, it is $5 per year.  

    Pep Rally: October 5 - 11:30 in the ROC gym - We will be introducing our soccer and volleyball teams and playing a fun game with the student body!  All parents are welcome.

    School Supplies: We have received all school supplies. Thank you!  

    Kick-Off forms: We have a handful of forms missing.  Mrs. Otten will be contacting those with missing forms.  Please try to get them returned as soon as possible.

    Homework Surveys: Homework survey packets are going home today.  Look them over this weekend to be prepared for their completion on Tuesday, September 25 and Thursday, September 27.  Remember to include ALL homework done on those days, including any time spent working on subjects during free class time and study hall periods.  These surveys help Academic Committee to assess ways to improve our students' educational experience. Thank you for you assistance with this assessment!  All homework survey forms can be returned on Friday, September 28.

    Senior Recognition: Soccer seniors will be recognized before their home game on Monday, September 24 at approximately 5 pm.  Volleyball seniors will be recognized before their home game on Friday, October 5 at approximately 7 pm. 

    Spirit Days: September 24 - Spirit Day - wear your red, black, and white!  October 1 - Pajama Day - wear your pj's that day but don't forget to brush your teeth!  October 3 - Favorite Color Day - come to school decked out in your favorite color or colors!  October 5 - Spirit Day - sport your school colors again!  Hats, sunglasses, face paint, etc. are allowed on Spirit Days.  It will be up to teachers whether or not those things can be worn during class.  Be mindful of the dress code when planning for Spirit Days.  We will be awarding a prize to the student with the most school spirit!!  GO MUSTANGS!

    Pep Rally: Friday, October 5th at 11:30 we will recognize our senior volleyball and soccer athletes.  Feel free to join us for the fun.

    See You at the Pole: Wednesday, September 26 - Join us at 8:15 am for a time of prayer for our families, school, nation, and world.  It is a beautiful thing to see all of our students and staff coming together for a time of prayer.

    CFS Tournament: All students leaving early on Friday, September 28 for the CFS soccer and volleyball tournament are expected to turn in all homework and get Friday's homework from teachers ahead of time.  All of Friday's work is due on Monday, October 1st.   

    Mid-Term Cut Off: September 28 - grades will be sent out the following week. 

    Parent/Teacher Conference: Monday, October 8 at 6 pm in the ROC gym - Please add this date to your family calendars.  It is important for all families to be in attendance.  This is an evening designed to open dialogue between parents and teachers, but feel free to contact a teacher at any time if you have questions or concerns.

    1st Quarter Ends: October 24 - grade cards will go home the following week.
