Vocabulario - Tuesday Homework
Pg. 83 - Copy vocabulary words 4 times each and Bible verse on page 87 (3x's). You can look up the meanings of these verbs in your textbook's glossary. After copying of vocabulary, read page 84 and learn how to conjugate or form these -ar ending verbs in the present tense.
Classwork - Monday
DO Actividad 1 on pg. 83 , Actividades 2, 3 & 4 on page 85
Actividad 1 - Write out the complete sentence and underline the verb you are completing.
1. Uds. estudian francés.
2. Yo canto en el coro.
3. Nicolás toma Coca-cola.
Actividad 2 - Write out simple sentences with the words provided.
1. Yo / compar - Yo compro mi perro.
2. mi madre / llegar - Mi madre llega mañana.
Actividad 3 - Finish the sentences by putting the verbs in the proper form. Write out the complete sentence and underline the verbs you formed.
1. Uds. estudian historia; Juan y Pablo estudian ciencia.
Actividad 4 - Answer the questions using the correct form of the verb.
1. ¿Dónde estudias, en casa o en la escuela? Yo estudio en casa y en la escuela.
2. ¿Qué idioma hablas en casa? Yo hablo ... (look up the word idioma in the glossary of your book or the Spanish/English dictionary you should already have)

Spanish II
Vocabulary Manual page 88, list 16 B- Write out vocabulary words 4 times each and conjugate the verb conocer in all its present tense formations - Yo, tú, usted, él, ella, nosotros, ustedes, ellos, y ellas.
Vocabulary Manual page 76, list 13 B - Write out time expressions 4 times each. Read the following explanation about telling time and do the following exercises. You can also review in your textbook 1A, page 164 & 165.
To tell time in Spanish, use the verb ser. Es is used with one o'clock, the words for noon and midnight. Son is used with all other hours. Estar is never used to tell time.
When you hear the question - ¿Qué hora es? (What time is it?)
You answer with the sentence: Son las cinco y diez. or whatever time it is.
Remember that in Spanish, you state the hour and minutes past the hour, such as:
Son las cinco y cuarto (5:15) Son las dos y media. (2:30) Es la una. (1:00)
Es mediodía. (noon or 12:00 PM) Es medianoche. (midnight or 12:00 AM)
But after "half past," once the minute hand is past the thirty minutes, you will state the hour to come and subtract the minutes left till the next hour, such as:
Son las seis menos cuarto. (5:45) It's six minus a quater or fifteen minutes.
Son las cuatro menos veinticinco. (3:35) It's four minus twenty five minutes.
To distinguish between A.M. and P.M., Spanish speakers use the following expressions:
Son las once de la mañana. (11:00 A.M.)
Es la una de la tarde. (1:00 P.M.)
Son las siete y veinticinco de la noche. (7:25 P.M.)
Son las dos y media de la madrugada. (2:30 A.M.)
In other words, these time expressions are specific to the time of day. But when the exact hour is not mentioned or known, then Spanish speakers use the preposition por instead of de, such as:
La práctica de fútbol es por la tarde. Football practice is in the afternoon. (not exact time)
La clase de español es a las nueve de la mañana. Spanish class is at nine in the morning. (exact time)
When you want to know at what time an event will take place, you ask the question: ¿A qué hora es?
¿A qué hora es el concierto? Es a las siete y media de la noche.
Notice that the answer begins with the verb es. ¿Qué hora es? asks What time is it?
¿A qué hora? asks At what time is such an event?
Do this exercise in time expressions with the verb llegar which means to arrive. Complete the story. The first sentence states the time on the clock at the moment of the statement. Is the person late, early or on time? Use vocabulary in list 13 B.
1. Son las cuatro. Rosa tiene una reunión con su profesor las cuatro. Ella llega _____________.
2. Son las siete menos diez. Samuel tiene su clase de matemáticas a las ocho. El llega ____________.
3. Son las siete y veinte. Roberto tiene una práctica de drama a las siete de la noche. El llega ________________.
Answer the questions in Spanish by using the phrases in vocabulary list 13 B: before school, in the beginning of school, during school, at the end of school, or after school.
1. ¿Cuándo saludamos la bandera de los Estados Unidos, la bandera cristiana, y la Biblia? _________________________________________________.
