Review for Quiz of Lesson 10

I. First, you need to know how to spell the new -ar ending verbs you learned in this lesson 10 and know their meaning:

to talk = hablar

to enter = entrar

to study = estudiar

to win/gain = ganar

to sing = cantar

to buy/purchase = comprar

to arrive = llegar

to practice = practicar

to drink/take = tomar

to work = trabajar

to walk = caminar

to listen = escuchar

to  desire/want = desear

II. The above list are infinitives, but to use in present tense, you must conjugate (form the infinitive according to your subject).

Take the infinitive with the -ar ending, drop the -ar and add the proper ending. By now you should all know the subject pronouns for "I, you (familiar), he, she, you (formal), we, you (familiar plural), they (masculine), they (feminine), and you (formal plural).

estudiar = to study

yo estudio   (I study)               nosotros estudiamos  (we study)

tu estudias  (you study)          vosotros estudiais       (you (plural) study)

el estudia    (he studies)         ellos estudian              (they (masc.) study)

ella estudia  (she studies)       ellas estudian              (they (fem.) study)

usted estudia  (you study)       ustedes estudian         (you (plural) study)

For example:

Mi padre trabaja en la escuela.

Tu tia canta en el coro.

Mis amigos practican el futbol los viernes en la tarde.

Raquel y Maria hablan en Chino.

Yo llego temprano a la iglesia los domingos

Sus hermanas caminan al parque todos los dias.

Nosotros compramos pizza en la cafeteria.

Los muchachos escuchan a la profesora.

III. Third, you must understand that the same subject pronouns can also be used as object pronouns, except the "yo" and the "tu". These two pronouns change to "mi (with an accent)" and "ti" when placed after a preposition (de, en, delante de, junto a, al lado de, debajo de, detras de, encima de, para, y con.

Subject pronouns

yo = I nosotros = we

tu (with an accent) = you (familiar)                  vosotros = you (plural familiar)

el (with an accent) = he                                   ellos = they (plural masculine)

ella = she                                                         ellas = they (plural feminine)

usted = you (formal)                                        ustedes = you (plural formal and familiar)

Object pronouns

mi (with an accent)  = me nosotros = us

ti = you  vosotros = you (plural familiar)

el (with an accent) = him ellos = them (masculine plural)

ella = her  ellas = them (feminine plural)

usted = you (formal) ustedes = you (plural familiar and formal)

con + mi (with an accent) = conmigo (with me)

con + ti = contigo = with you

Never write or say "con yo" or "con ti"!

para mi (with an accent)

Never write or say "para yo" or "para ti".

Study and do well!
