Homework for Monday 2-15 through Tuesday 2-16

Handwriting pp. 95-96 ear as in bear and earth

Reader pp.66-73  new words: basket,  voice, drawled, attack, tunnels, stockade, Daniel, Indians, listened arrows

Reading Workbook pp. 101-102

Letters and Sounds pp. 89-90  Add o as in shovel and a as in banana to the special sounds list

Review phonics words for test on Wed. all, talk, rainfall, small, your, from

Math pp. 185-188  Introduce two-digit addition  Always start in the ones place.  If they develop the habit of starting on the left as we do in reading, it will be hard to change when we have to learn to carry a number.

Practice counting by twos to 100 and by threes to thirty.  On p. 188 point out the scake on the graph, each block on the graph stands for 10 feet.

Language p. 97  Review penguin facts. List facts he or she can remember on a scrap page. Use the following for a main idea sentence:  I know some interesting facts about penguins.  The first one is .....   Next  is.... Use at least three facts in sentences

Prompt them with these questions if they need help remembering: To what family or group do penguins belong?  bird

What do they eat?  fish  Who is their worst enemy?  leopard seal  Do they have live babies or lay eggs?   eggs  Who takes care of the eggs? The father emporer penguin rolls the egg up onto his feet and covers it with a flap of skin to keep it warm.

How does the mother feed the babies? She swims out into the ocean and spends weeks fishing and eating.  When she has enough, she swims back and spits up partially digested food for the baby. ( Hope you've had breakfast)

Wed. we will make covers for our penguin books and bring them home.
